Seq: On return from visit to NATO nations Pace stands before mikes at National Airport, requests members of the press standing by to withhold their queries until he makes a statement. He describes his tour through eleven countries as doing a superb job, calling them "our ambassadors abroad". He cites the 7th Army in Germany as being impressive and says that NATO shows great progress. A newsman inquires of Pace's reaction to criticism levelled at Lt Gen Lewis A. Pick by a Congressional Sub Committee investigating construction of airbases. Pace replies that he intends to examine the report adding that the matter is already under investigation by the I.G. He states also that he has appointed an independent authority to check the development of such bases. The newsman questions whether results of previous investigations have found Pick at fault. Pace refuses to draw a conclusion until all reports are in. Footage silent from this point: C-121 plane taxies. Ramp is moved in place. Pace is greeted by Gen J. Lawton Collins, Asst Secy Army Fred Korth and others. Pace and Collins chat. Pace walks to mikes, speaks. RA, service, civilian motion-picture crews at work. Pace chats with Collins and Korth. Poses with Collins for still photogs, enters auto which drives off.
